A message to our Global City Norwich community regarding COVID-19
Global City Norwich is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of our community and partners. As the entire world navigates through an issue of vast human impact, our priorities to support our community remains paramount during this challenging time.
Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) and our thoughts are with everyone as we hope for you to remain safe and healthy. The vigilance of our local government leaders and health officials have assisted Global City Norwich to make insightful and informed decisions and will continue to help guide us to prevent the spread of the virus and to support everyone’s health and well-being.
As a community, our schools, local businesses, and organizations are being greatly impacted by the complexity of this situation. During this time, many community members have offered awe-inspiring ideas to strengthen understanding and unity as events are scheduled to change. As of now, all public events scheduled between now and May will be postponed until a later date. The amount of planning and coordination with partners, vendors, performers, artists, volunteers and many other key individuals leading up to events will affect the outcome of the events planned for this spring.
We remain optimistic and positive; the compassion from the community to adjust scheduling and formulate new and creative ideas has been extremely supportive. The two festivals scheduled for the month of May – Haitian Flag Day and the Cape Verdean Festival will be postponed to a later date. Many local Norwich participants involved with the planning, coordination, vending and performance components of these events are affected by temporary school and work closures. Support and patience for our community members and their families at this time is paramount above all else. We will keep you updated with any scheduling changes in regard to all other programming through Global City Norwich or assisted by Global City Norwich. It is our due diligence along with NCDC, the City of Norwich, community members to continue event preparations by working virtually and from a social distance until regular activity as mandated by the government resumes.
Global City Norwich would like to thank you for your understanding and resilience as we take precautionary steps in response to the dynamic health impact we are all experiencing. We embrace our mission to celebrate community and culture in Downtown Norwich now more than ever and we appreciate you all for your support for that mission and our community. Your dedication to remaining positive continues to inspire us all. Global City Norwich looks forward to the excitement of connecting at future events and seeing you all soon.
